Old Moor Farm
RSPB Old Moor has an abundance of history that very few people could even imagine. It may now be the turn of the birds, wildlife and plants to take centre stage but since it was created in 1755 horses, yeomanry cavalry, airplanes and the coal industry have all played their part.
Coal was King in the 20th century. The Dearne Valley a key component in the machine driving industrial Britain. The 1980’s would see coal swept away , Old Moor Farm once surrounded by an area known as “the most polluted site in Europe” is now itself a Site of Special Scientific Interest. An impressive turn around in little more than a generation.
This website allows you to access hundreds of documents and photographs uncovered researching the rich heritage of RSPB Old Moor Farm. Please enjoy them but observe that some items will have copyright restrictions.
